TORQUAY HOTEL

The design intention was to create a bright yet tranquil aesthetic with a coastal edge, while paying respect to the existing building, an icon of Torquay. We have opened up the internal spaces and created a connection to all offerings through materiality.

The palette of natural timbers, terrazzos, terracotta, fluted glass, muted greens and bright whites were selected to create a warm and textural interior which reflects the beautiful natural hues of its coastal surroundings.

The dramatic ceiling trusses from the existing building have taken on a new life and we wanted to reflect this in the building extension by accentuating the new pitched roofline to the façade which allows light to flood the spaces and creates a beautiful volume internally. The Façade of openable windows and use of planting throughout creates a strong connection to the outdoors and really heightens the street presence.
